Access is the single biggest thing that moves the price, so this part matters more than the counts. By “in the way” we mean pipework, cable trays, ductwork or equipment sitting between the ceiling opening and the damper.

What moves the price

Two buildings with the same number of dampers can be thousands apart. These are the things that actually decide it, and the reasons the estimator asks what it asks.

  • Access is the single biggest factor. A damper behind a fixed ceiling with no panel can cost more to reach than to test.

  • Volume brings the rate down. The engineer is on site either way, so the more dampers on one visit, the less each one costs.

  • Height changes the method. Step ladders, towers and powered access are three different jobs.

  • Out of hours working carries an uplift, but it is often cheaper than the disruption of a daytime shutdown.

  • Remedial work is priced separately, because until a damper is opened up nobody knows what it needs.
